With some advance on previous editions, we already have here the new list of The 50 World’s Best Restaurants, the – alleged – best restaurants in the world. It is, along with the Guia Michelin, the list with more impact and prestige of the gastronomic world, which despite pretending to be objective and plural always sparks controversy. This year has surprised many because the award crosses the Atlantic to boost to Eleven Madison Park, New York as the best restaurant in the world.

The top of this ranking have spent years playing with almost the same names, and the truth is that it is difficult to imagine what restaurant deserves more or less a better position. In any case, as it happens with all the awards and listings, they are subjective ratings with a relative value and never will be to everyone’s taste. Intends to also encourage conversation, debate and exchange of experiences among the major figures of world cuisine.

The Academy of The World’s 50 Restaurants will offer annual insight into the global dining scene based on the opinion and experience of its members. It consists of more than 1000 experts in the world of gastronomy, which include critics, journalists, chefs, writers and other professionals and gourmets from reference of the scene.

Every year there are 25% of new voters, who this year completed a list of 1040 experts. They belong to 26 different regions of the world and each one brings 40 voters, each of which selects 10 restaurants to vote. Although the votes are based on each participant’s own criteria, there are a few basic rules: each voter should have visited the restaurant at least once in the last 18 months, they can only vote for a maximum of 6 of their own region and the process is always anonymous and confidential.
