For some time we are witnessing the debate that is acquiring the consumption of foods containing palm oil. So much so that, at this point, large supermarket chains are opting to eliminate products that contain this controversial ingredient.
It has become clear that no consumers like what they are hearing about Palm oil and, as a natural reaction to the policy of supply and demand, many supermarkets have decided to tackle the root problem: ending oil palm in their brands.
In fact, the Auchan supermarket chain has been one of the first that has decided to eliminate this ingredient in all products of own manufacture in response to the suspicion that has arisen, rather than based around the use of an unhealthy oil, rich in fat saturated and harmful to cardiovascular health.
DAY, Eroski, Mercadona, Hipercor and Lidl will follow the footsteps of Auchan
Seems that Auchan will not be only in this initiative, since other u-boat supermarkets such as marks: day, Eroski, Mercadona, Hipercor and Lidl, could follow the same line echoing the social concern that the issue is causing.
“Our interproveedores take time making moves to replace palm oil and other trans-fats in their products when possible. We will continue to make progress in that line “-Juan Roig President of Mercadona.”
Despite the common initiative of all of them, many supermarkets support the idea that this aspect should be focus of higher mode in large manufacturers that use this ingredient in a massive way and, as we remember, today, and in spite of everything, is completely legal and one of the most recurrent due to the flavor that brings and its low price.
Two reasons which, no doubt, and despite everything, devoted to Palm oil as an ingredient that is difficult to replace in this “business”.
